Advanced Drainage Systems is making a big splash in the Midwest. In May, the stormwater infrastructure leader acquired River Valley Pipe, adding two manufacturing plants in Illinois and Iowa to its network. It’s a bold move aimed at expanding reach, shortening delivery times, and staying ahead in a market increasingly shaped by climate stress.

As rainfall grows more intense and drainage systems buckle under the pressure, local governments are scrambling to upgrade. Advanced Drainage’s expanded footprint positions it to respond faster and more efficiently. Traits like speed and reliability matter when cities and farms alike are facing mounting water challenges.

“This acquisition strengthens our ability to serve the Midwest efficiently and reinforces our long-term commitment to delivering quality solutions,” said CEO Scott Barbour. He added that River Valley Pipe’s mission aligns well with the company’s, laying the groundwork for future success.

The deal also ramps up production of plastic pipes essential for stormwater and agricultural use. By shifting more manufacturing closer to demand, the company can cut delivery times, offer more flexible service, and solidify its edge in a tightening market.

But the implications run deeper than geography. With regulations tightening and extreme weather becoming routine, customers want more than reliable parts. They want suppliers that can offer integrated, sustainable solutions. And they want them now.

Merging operations won’t be seamless, but the payoff could be major. With this acquisition, Advanced Drainage Systems isn’t just growing bigger. It is signaling that it's ready to lead the charge in modernizing America’s stormwater defenses.

In an industry where pressure is rising both literally and figuratively, this is a power move.
