Inside ADS’s Bold Plan to Rethink Stormwater

Advanced Drainage Systems is diving deep into the future of water management with a $1 billion acquisition of National Diversified Sales, one of the largest deals the stormwater industry has ever seen.

The purchase unites two major players in drainage and water infrastructure at a moment when storms are stronger, systems are older, and climate demands are higher. ADS is best known for large-scale pipes and basins, while NDS specializes in smaller drainage and irrigation systems used in homes and businesses.

“This deal connects the dots from the smallest yard drain to the largest stormwater basin,” said an ADS spokesperson. “It enables us to deliver comprehensive water management solutions at every scale.”

Analysts say the merger’s strength lies in its range. By blending ADS’s vast infrastructure footprint with NDS’s contractor and retail channels, the company could offer an end-to-end network of stormwater solutions that spans from neighborhoods to entire municipalities. The combination may also speed up innovation in materials and sustainability practices.

The timing is strategic. Federal and state governments are ramping up investments in flood control and runoff management, creating a fertile environment for companies equipped to deliver scalable solutions.

Integration will take time, but the vision is clear: broader market reach, stronger technical expertise, and a united push toward sustainable infrastructure.

With NDS now under its umbrella, ADS is positioning itself not just as a manufacturer but as a force in climate resilience, transforming stormwater from an overlooked utility into a cornerstone of sustainable growth.
